Mrs. Richard Don Garner
Marriage of Mildred Ruth Thomas and Richard Don Garner
Unknown Newspaper
November 1955

Miss Mildred Ruth Thomas, daughter of Mrs. Mary Ella Bentley, became the bride Saturday evening, November 5, of Richard Don Garner, in a ceremony performed at the First Baptist church.

The marriage rites were read by Dr. James H. Stanley before an altar decorated with palm and Chinese jade baskets of white gladioli and chrysanthemums. Tall candelabra held white tapers.

Mrs. Wilbur McHuffey sang "O Promise Me," and Malotte's "The Lord's Prayer." Mrs. C.L. McCuistion, Jr., accompanied Mrs. McHuffey at the organ and played traditional wedding marches.

Teh bride, given in marriage by her uncle, Woodrow Doigg, wore a white imported French lace gown over slipper satin, with a Peter Pan neckline, finger tip-length sleeves and a long train. Her bouquet was of white gardenias and French carnations on a jeweled fan tied with streamers of tulle. Her veil of illusion was caught to the headdress with seed pearls.

Miss Peggy Reames, maid of honor, wore a gown of shrimp pink lace and carried a bouquet of blue carnations. The brides maids, Miss Imogene Patterson and Mrs. Jerry Stanger wore gowns of electric blue lace and carried bouquets of shrimp pink carnations.

Wilford Casper attended the groom as best man and Ned Carpenter and Jerry Don Stanger were ushers.

Pamela Garner served as flower girl, Paul Hart was ring bearer and Nita Doigg and Becky Garner were trainbearers.

Immediately following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's mother. Serving at the punch bowl was Miss Martha Glenn and wedding cake was served by Mrs. Woodrow Doigg from a lace-covered table centered with an arrangement of chrysanthemums.

After a short trip to South Texas, the couple will be at home in Forney.

Mr. and Mrs. Garner are graduates of Forney High School.
